Overview

This unit will take students on a journey to explore why bread is an important food here and all over the world, not only as a food staple, but also as part of cultural traditions. They will learn about states of matter as they cook with various ingredients and learn how different breads are made. Additionally, the students will learn about and practice the skill of sequencing and learn how to write how-to books. This study will culminate with two final projects. The first project is a family recipe book, containing recipes of cultural significance to each student. The second project is a class bakery, in which the students will play different roles to teach their customers (audience) what they have learned throughout the study.
